Kelsey & Scott Birkhofer

The center has been family owned and operated for 39 years. Open since 1980, the Birkhofer family has both experience AND educational qualifications.

Kelsey Birkhofer has been working in childcare for 14 years and has her B.A. in Human Development & Family Studies from Warner Pacific College. Scott Birkhofer attended DDDC, has a Master's of Business Administration from Concordia Univeristy, and a B.A. from Linfield College. Outside of DDDC, they enjoy playing sports, attending Blazer games, and raising their three children, Madison, Andrew, and Luke.

Deb Shirley
Director

 

Deb has worked in licensed child care centers for 46 years - 37 years with DDDC! Deb is a native Portlander and graduated from James Monroe High School, focusing on early childhood development. "From the time I was in the first grade I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I love the children's enthusiasm, and their sense of wonder and discovery toward their world. Working with these young children keeps me in touch with my own inner child." Outside of DDDC, she enjoys reading, cooking, music, and experiencing new adventures.

Candy Thomas
Director

 

Candy has worked in childcare for 24 years - 7 with DDDC. She is from La Habra, California and attended Alta Loma Community College. She enjoys the variety of dealing with different personalities. She also enjoys getting to know the families and helping to mold "these tiny people." Outside of the center, she enjoys reading, watching movies and watching her three children's sporting events and plays.

Heather Mason
4's & 5's Head Teacher

 

Heather has worked in childcare for 29 years - all with DDDC. She is from Gresham, and attended Barlow High School. She enjoys the variety that the children create day to day. Outside of DDDC, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and watching movies.

Rosaura Killinger
4's & 5's Head Teacher

 

Rosaura has worked in childcare for 18 years - 14 with DDDC. She is from Los Angeles, but graduated from Reynolds High School. She loves getting to know each child and creating a bond with each one. She also loves watching them laugh, learn, play, and become independent "doers and helpers." Outside of DDDC, Rosaura enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, taking pictures, drawing, playing with her daughter, and making home videos for her brother in the Army.

Lee Huber
3's & 4's Head Teacher

 

Lee has worked in childcare for 39 years - 34 with DDDC! She is from Portland, and graduated from Clatsop College. She enjoys seeing the children immersed in a new activity, learning by doing. She also loves supporting the children as they let their creativity and imagination guide their projects. Outside of DDDC, Lee enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. Her lifelong goal is to someday write children's books.

 

Brandi Fiebranz
Infants

 

Brandi has worked in childcare for 6 years - 3 with DDDC. She is from Portland, and graduated from Centennial High School. She enjoys seeing the children's faces at drop off as they are excited to see you. She also loves helping them accomplish milestones. Outside of DDDC, she enjoys going to concerts, movies, singing in the car, spending time with friends and her nieces.

Emily Moats
Infants

 

Emily has worked in childcare for 6 years - 5 with DDDC. She is from Portland and is attending Mt. Hood Community College. She enjoys spending time with the kids and watching them grow. She loves taking care of all the babies. Outside of DDDC, she enjoys going to concerts, being festive, watching hall mark movies, going to movies and hanging out with friends and family.

Lauren Groleau
Toddlers

 

Lauren has worked in childcare for 3 years - 1 with DDDC. She is from California, but raised in Milwaukee Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon. She loves the way kids are captivated by seemingly small things that adults sometimes miss. She also enjoys seeing the excitement when a child learns/masters a new skill. Outside of DDDC, she enjoys readin, going to movies, spening time with her fiance and dog, Koda. The 3 of them enjoy hiking and exploring Portland.
